Born and raised in a small rural community, Ayebale Ronald’s journey is deeply personal. As a child, he struggled to read and count, facing the same challenges his learners encountered before joining the Teach For Uganda Fellowship. A proud beneficiary of the Uganda government Universal Primary Education (UPE) program, Ronald’s determination to rise above those early struggles inspired his lifelong commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind.
“I know what it feels like to sit in class and not understand what the teacher is saying,” Ronald shares. “That experience motivates me every single day to make learning easier and more engaging for my pupils.”
Transforming Learning Through Dedication

Since joining the fellowship, Ronald has made remarkable strides in improving literacy and numeracy outcomes at Katuugo Primary School. His approach is grounded in daily learner assessments, which help him tailor lessons to each child’s unique learning pace. He also conducts regular home visits, engaging with parents and guardians to establish strong learning support systems that extend beyond the classroom.
“Before Teacher Ronald came, my child used to fear reading in front of others,” says Jane Akiki, a parent at Katuugo Primary School. “Now she reads stories confidently at home. We see the difference his effort has made.”
These consistent efforts have yielded tremendous results; students who once struggled to recognize letters can now read and write independently. Beyond academic improvement, learners’ confidence, self-expression and participation in class have greatly increased.
“I used to be very quiet during class,” says Agonza Diasyranta, one of Ronald’s Primary One learners. “But now I can stand and read aloud in class. Teacher Ronald always tells us, ‘You can do it.’ That makes me believe in myself.”
Championing Climate Resilience and Environmental Awareness
Ronald’s vision extends beyond the classroom walls. In 2024, he launched a climate resilience project that promotes environmental stewardship through tree planting. With the support of learners, parents, and local leaders, he has helped establish a green zone around the school, transforming previously bare spaces into lush learning environments.
“We are teaching our children that caring for the environment is caring for their future,” Ronald explains. “When learners plant and nurture trees, they learn responsibility and the importance of protecting nature.”
His efforts have created a ripple effect: learners now take the initiative to encourage their families to plant trees at home. The project has become a community movement, fostering eco-conscious learners who are protecting their surroundings and spreading awareness about sustainability.

Mrs. Kurungi, the school’s headteacher, notes, “Ronald has brought new energy to our school. The learners are more active, the community is more engaged, and even the teachers are learning new ways of teaching and thinking about the future.”
Empowering Teachers Through Collaboration
Ronald’s leadership is equally evident among his peers. Recognizing the importance of sustainability in educational impact, he has worked closely with government teachers at Katuugo Primary School, training them in 21st-century teaching skills, including learner-centred instruction, active learning techniques, and the use of low-cost teaching aids.
Through these sessions, Ronald ensures that his impact will continue long after his fellowship. His collaborative spirit has strengthened teamwork among staff and improved the overall learning environment.

A Role Model of Resilience and Hope
Throughout his fellowship, Ayebale Ronald has faced challenges that included limited resources, large class sizes, and the complexities of rural education, but his positive mindset and deep sense of purpose keep him going. In him, the vision of Teach For Uganda finds voice and momentum.
“Each time I see a learner read a full sentence on their own, I am reminded why I chose this path,” Ronald reflects. “I want these children to dream bigger than I ever could at their age.”
Ronald Ayebale’s story is a reflection of what passionate, community-driven leadership can achieve. From empowering learners to inspiring teachers and mobilizing communities, his journey demonstrates the transformative power of education.
As Teach For Uganda continues to nurture leaders like Ronald, the vision of one day, all children in Uganda will attain an equitable quality education, moves closer to reality.
