The Africa School Leaders Gathering represents a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to strengthen educational leadership across Africa. Conceived as a strategic initiative, the gathering provides a platform for school leaders, educators and policymakers to convene, exchange ideas, and collaborate on solutions tailored to the unique challenges facing educational institutions throughout the region.
Held from 30th June to 3rd July 2025 in Kampala, Uganda, the inaugural event brought together fifteen distinguished alumni from six network partners. These individuals had successfully completed the “School Leadership: From Good to Great” course, a program specifically designed to enhance their capacity to lead high-performance schools and foster transformative change within their communities.
Over the course of three days, participants engaged in a series of intensive workshops and discussions aimed at achieving four primary outcomes. These included the cultivation of leadership habits essential for the effective implementation of the PTCM (Plan, Teach, Check, Modify) tool within their schools; the acquisition of insights from both local experts and peer institutions operating within Uganda; the presentation and critical review of outcomes from their PLAN projects; and the establishment of a robust community of practice among school leaders across the continent.
In addition to these structured sessions, the gathering featured immersive field experiences designed to deepen participants’ understanding of effective school leadership in practice. One group visited M-LISADA Passion Primary School, where they engaged with Teach For Uganda alumni Decimon Wandera and Carol Serra. Another group traveled to Kirowoza Primary School in Mukono, interacting directly with school leaders, teachers and learners. These visits provided valuable opportunities for reflection, observation, and professional growth.

The gathering also welcomed representatives from Teach For Zimbabwe, Teach For Kenya, Teach For Sierra Leone, Teach For Nigeria, and Teach For Liberia, each contributing unique perspectives and expertise to the dialogue.
The success of the Africa School Leaders Gathering was made possible through the dedication and contributions of individuals such as Feroza Cassim, Adelina Martey, Diana Rose Nyasenya, Ivan Samuel Womala, Moses Ruharo, Emmanuel Kimuli, Mary Nyadoi, Gloria Acan, and Dinah Achola. Their efforts helped foster a collaborative environment conducive to sustainable growth and innovation within the educational sector.
The Africa School Leaders Gathering serves as a compelling demonstration of the role that collaborative leadership plays in educational reform. By convening professionals with a unified vision, the event contributes to the development of resilient systems capable of delivering equitable and high-quality education throughout Africa.
