In many underserved classrooms, children show up ready to learn, and teachers show up ready to teach. But too often, one of the most basic tools for learning is missing: books. Without regular access to books, children struggle to build reading confidence, practice independently, and fully participate in the classroom.

A teacher can write on a chalkboard. A Fellow can inspire participation. A school can open its doors. But a child cannot learn to read without something to read.

When books are missing, the loss goes far beyond reading lessons. It affects how children understand every subject, how they express themselves, how they imagine the world, and how confidently they take part in their own learning. A book gives a child more than words on a page. It gives them language, curiosity, confidence, and a door into possibility.

The Give a Book Campaign is designed to respond to this reality in a practical way. The goal is not to decorate classrooms with books that remain locked away, but to create reading spaces that children can actually use. Through classroom mini libraries, reading corners, book boxes, and guided reading support, we want books to move from shelves into children’s hands.

We are raising UGX 200,000,000, approximately USD 53,000, to provide book access and practical reading spaces for 5,000 learners in underserved public primary schools. This is more than a fundraising campaign. It is a commitment to place books where learning begins: in children’s hands.
