As a result of the COVID19 pandemic, a lockdown was declared nationwide. This means children are out of school until further notice. While the government of Uganda has endeavored to ensure continuous education by posting lessons on radios and television, our learners in the underserved and rural communities are unable to access the same privilege. They're missing out and lagging behind.
Teach For Uganda is raising funds to procure innovative learning materials such as readers, workbooks for mathematics, English, Science, and Social Studies, Developing Lessons for community radios, and support the 2020-21 Fellows in their leadership journey as they creatively devise means to reach their learners daily on all platforms.
Each donation to the Student Changemakers Digital Campaign goes towards buying tablets, learning hotspots, and solar panels to equip and electrify schools in remote and rural villages. For the first time, thousands of Ugandan students will be able to follow the school curriculum -- and pursue their intellectual curiosity where it takes them -- online, during Covid-19, and beyond. And their parents get a source of electricity for their devices in the bargain!
Our fellows do not only focus on improving the learning outcomes of the children to pass at school but also work with the communities to ably find solutions to other external challenges that are affecting the children within their ecosystem of learning. They serve the community, create change together, and connect with the children to inspire them to dream big. some of the fellows have helped their children access education by connecting them to life-changing scholarships and sourcing for scholastic materials that will enable the children to stay in school and attain a better education.
